Re: PH High KH Low
Sodium Bicarbonate is the best way of controlling the pH, try keeping the KH at 6 - 8dH add see what happens.

Re: Expanding pond.
Hi Tobs,
As Mike says, Anoxic filtration is the way to go. Some sort of pre-filter to remove the large crud and then Anoxic baskets planted with lily's.

Re: Anoxic filtration
Hi Mick,
Can't you sink the drum in the ground a bit so you can gravity feed and then pump the clean water into the Anoxic filter
Have you seen this one ? http://www.koi.jpn.com/shop/filters/bri ... 00-details

Re: Spring
As Manky says, no problem with Anoxic filters and PP. In your case I'd dose a second time about four weeks after the first dose.
It's better to be safe.

Re: Spring
Hi Airlite, Duncan is correct. :D In my case its 10,000 / 220 x 1.5 = 68.18 gm / 100 for 1% -0.6818 & then x 30% = 20.45 gms so I dose with 20 gms. The aim is to reduce the bacteria count in the pond before we start to warm up to Spring temperatures. As the pond warms up the bacteria starts to m...

Re: Spring
Thanks Duncan,
I've used this PP protocol every Spring for a few years and it seems to work. Thankfully the beer drinking comes around more often.

Spring
Don't despair with all this cold weather we’re having. I had to cut the lawn this week before it got too tall. This can only mean one thing, Spring is on its way. Time to get the pond ready, I’ve just treated mine with a 30% dose of PP to keep the bacteria level low as the pond slowly warms up. Pond...

Re: Anoxic filtration
Hi Mick, If you can afford it then a RDF is the answer for pre-filtration. As Manky says the baskets would no doubt work better planted but I've had mine in the garage for 4 years without any plants. I imagine these fancy LED lamps work well but they seem to cost a fortune to purchase. I might well ...

Re: Anoxic filtration
Thought I'd explain a bit more about my Anoxic filtration whilst I've got everybodies attention. For those who are curious about this type of filter or who are even considering installing one, I thought I’d write about my experiences of running one for the last 4 and half years. What are the ...
