Hi yes i would say brain damage, really sad sight as i have had a 13 inch fish jump out of the pond and bang its head on a wall, it was never the same again.

I was a fisherman during my teens and remember using such a product, if i remember rightly it was iodine which came in a dropper bottle. No idea if it worked as obviously i never saw the fish again but if i knew then what i knew now i wouldnt bother.

Adding treatment regardless of what it is always changes water chemistry therefore stressing the fish to differing degrees, so as others have said wait at least 7 days.

It surprising how many people are advised that pressure filters are fine for koi ponds, i think the packaging should clearly state that they are not suitable. I Glued and stitched a fin on one of my Showa last year, great results cant remember how long the sutures were in but you will know once the fin has healed.

Get the aeration on and check the water parameters, as previously mentioned they should never have allowed the pond to ice over.

I would say you should be fine, i used rebar on my construction for peace of mind although i was told i didn't really need it.

Same set up i had on my old pond and they are a nuisance to clean partly because as with all pump fed filters the solids have been minced by the pump propeller before the filter has a chance to pick them out.
