Re: Bead or sand filter

save your money and add a simple fine screen (or even a piece of sponge) into the filter or one of the returns.
the problem youll find is after youve spent your hard earned cash on a new filter youll need a new more powerfull pump and then theres the increased electric bill.
it all adds up....

Re: Artemia

how about daphnia? we have a 220 gallon tank in the garden that is full of the stuff, you just dunk your net in and pull out a few thousand daily. they breed so prolifically that the number of them in the tank is replaced as the day goes by. to start the stock off we took a visit to a local pond and...

Re: QT

thanks, thats rather a lot of a drop. is the drop in water height progressive through the various bays or is it in one bay. the reason i ask is it does seem that your filter is very restrictive. you need to aim for a drop of half an inch at most. this gives you some grace for when your K1 starts to ...

Re: UV v foam fractionator

well, if the water in the glass is clear then your pond should be the same. it never works that way though, your UV must have made an impact on any suspended algae over the last 8 days (if the bulb is still effective). the fact that there is no crud at the bottom of the glass tends to sway that its ...

Re: UV v foam fractionator

no its not the same. think of a cup of tea (no milk) its coloured but will never clear. now think of a cup of muddy water, if left the mud will settle out and leave the water nearly clear again.

your pond water could be coloured just like either example,

Re: Pond Re-Build! Help Please!

pond fibreglassing is a big job and unless your pretty handy with a tub of resin and a roller i would get someone else to do it as if it goes wrong its a real hard job to put it right.

£250.00 for a diy lot for a pond sounds very cheap. unless youve a bath-tub sized pond..

Re: UV v foam fractionator

Andy, is it the water that is coloured or the suspended matter in the water that is making it look coloured.? get a pint glass and fill it with pond water then leave it to settle on a window ledge for a day or so. you'll either see the crud settle out or it'll just all go green. thisll give you a be...
