artificial bone

Post by Duncan »

hi all

iv'e been getting some really eary nights in lately but i thought of something thought i wouild mention it while it was fresh in my mind

anyone got a fish they can spare with a hole on the gill plate from maybe dermocystidium that live near me in the west midlands

a round 2 years ago i was mesing with making some artificial bone to replace mandible and upper jaw for fish with severe mouthrot with a view to splicing it in when all else looked like it was failing

i was using bicarbonate of soda and cyanoacrylate i was moulding stuff back then that could be refined carving but it never went any further

but it struck me this would be ideal if the gill plate had been eaten right through to give the skin soemthing to grow across

hence my question?

i was messing with this some time ago i had previously wired jaws together and while some success was had it always in every case left a disfigured mandible so i started to mess with this stuff with a view of putting a modicome of shape back in there but you know how it is you move on and forget about things?

but i was doing something and theat dermo thread popped into my head and i remembered the gill plates i had seen with a hole straight through em, so this idea came up again but it's like everything else there is never a subject fish when you want one :(

Hi Duncan

If you find a subject and need a scrubbed nurse to assist, work permitting, I would be pleased to help out.
What others use for a bone defect is either bone from a bone bank ( next time one of you have a fish that is dead without systemic infection let me know........ I might come and harvest some bone for a koi bone bank).

Now there is a challange.
