could someone enlighten me as to what excactly acetone is ,and why does fluke m work better with it.

Acetone is a liquid which is needed to be able to mix the Fubonel correctly as it will not mix properly in anything apart from this and it is basically nail varnish

Acetone is a solvent, most commonly available as nail varnish remover. Flubenol/Fluke M doesn't dissolve well in water but does in acetone, you only need a very small amount of it.

Hi All we have a change of attack I have some Fluke-solve coming on Friday so Sat morning I will do my usual filter clean and dose the pond I will keep you posted on how it go's.

you sure thats a wise choice mate? has it been tested that low? and on sturgeon? Plus its still 80 quids worth, for me i would rather go and prove what i can afford to use

BTW, she has ( mrs macdonald ) snuck in under the wire on koiquest as username "ftfv" im watching this account close but to see what her intent is, but my gut reaction is to nuke her right now

I believe the active ingredient in Fluke-solve is praziquantel? We know Fluke M/Flubenol is ok with sturgeons but have no idea about Fluke-solve/praziquantel. Even if it wasn't such a daft price we wouldn't use our fish to test it.

Hi Duncan/all,it has been tested down to 3c I am waiting for a reply on the Sturgeon question(I have not had to pay for this treatment)
I was all set to go with Fluke M I even got some acetone today,but having had the offer of Fluke-Solve and when I used it in my other pond at 5c the koi never showed any sign of a treatment being in the pond and on follow up scrapes no flukes were found,I did not want to chance another treatment not working.I spoke to a friend of mine today who said Fluke-m did not work for him even with acetone at low temps he said there was not enough flubenol in it and had been told it has changed he said it used to have an insecticide in it but no longer has
As usual I will let you know how it go's.

How exactly did you word the sturgeon question Lee? Have you asked if they have done clinical trials on sturgeons, and if so which species? As you know, some species are more sensitive than others (your Diamonds for example). Not all med peddlers actually test on all the species they claim their products are safe for. Some products containing formalin claim to be safe for sturgeons. Maybe they just rely on the fact that it's hard to prove the treatment was to blame for the death, the fish was sick anyway, your water quality was poor etc...

Hi All I have just received an email from Fiona and Fluke-solve is fine with Sturgeon.So I will be going a head with the treatment on Sat morning as I will be here all day (watching the rugby)So I can keep an eye on them

Hi All the treatment arrived today and after a filter clean and water change the Fluke-solve went in after just half an hour the koi were looking much happier and were more active,I know it sounds mad but I was working in the garden and was able to watch them closely before and after treating.I will give them a scrape on Sunday and will let you know how it went from previous treatment in my big pond I found no flukes at all.
I forgot to say the temp was 5.6 DG and all water tests were fine the PH was 7.5

If you had poured flour in the water they'd have been more active. If you change their environment they react for a period of time.

PS: Not recommending you try the flour... but if you do then please make sure your sieve it first !
