Re: any ideas
Gazza, there is something protruding in the mouth and yes the lump is a bit reddish on the outside ... somehow it feels like a growth, boil or something. It is fairly hard under the skin, but I'm hoping you guys can help - cause I don't know . After Dunc looks at this, I may persuade him to do some exploratory surgery or he may suggest that I leave it alone. It also looks like it's getting smaller - but to be honest, I just don't know what it is.
... but she's happily swimming around and feeding as normal

hi Chris
is the protrusion in the mouth sharp or dull?
im happy to open her up for you mate but would need her here im re-landscaping my back garden up at the moment for the wet lab and building a new lab and work shop ,i may have to postpone the wet lab till summer because of this
, so have no time to drive big distances
i will suture her back up and you will easily be able to take these out later

Re: any ideas
Dunc, it's more of a feel of hard rubber-ish.
pm me with some dates (of your availability) and times and I'll drive over ... or I can wait till the wet lab. I was planning on adding my name, but didn't want to, until I knew the dates as I am not always here.

Re: any ideas
Firstly ... a big thank you to Duncan, who operated and removed a piece of rogue bone from the jaw area of the Showa and Bob (Kayoss) who kept me company on the journey to and from Dunc's. She's back in the pond and swimming around merrily.
Below are a few of the pictures charting the operation, I hope you find it interesting. We also noticed a small area of infection on her chest, but decided to leave well enough alone. I will remove the stiches in about two weeks. My pond is currently 14 and will be raised over the next few days to 18.
30 seconds in 2-phenoxyethanol and she's out for the count , all 60cm's of her feeling around the lump and inside her mouth the incession working the lump free it's a piece of bone ...??? a small piece was left behind - it's an old break ... so it was also removed cleaning up the blood - which was already clotting stitching up the incision still out cold - seven sticthes in all a closer look

Re: any ideas
Glen, time went by so quickly ... but I would guess, based on the time we got to Dunc's and when we left, 30-45 minutes. ... but I learned more in the 2hrs we were there than in the whole time I've been playing with koi.... it was so very informative.
The whole trip took us around six hours from the time she was first bagged, to being back in the pond. She pretty much stayed in my pond water the whole time. With just a top up to replace the water which had been used to sedate her ... by no means a jumbo koi but we did transport her in a fair bit of water.
Been watching her this morning and she's eating and acting normally, I've raised the pond 2 degrees overnight and will do another 1-2 tonight - so as to give her the best chance to recover.

hi Chris
glad you got home safe and sound and the fish has recovered nicely and is eating again , the powers of these fish is staggering , would you be eating ther day after somebody just slit your throat ?
its was a pleasure to have you guys around, i just felt bad you never had a drink
i guess the fish was out for around 25 minutes no more i never zonked her hard enough for 45 minutes as i thought this one would be a real easy one.. its kinda hard for me to explain how i knock fish out to varying degrees or just what signs im looking for in the various states of sedation , but when i get my new Den up and running im going to have pumped aneasthetic over the gill
ive been looking at my carp skeleton this morning and i still cant figure that bone out or how it got broke but better out than in i say!!
the woman come to groom tash just after you left and thye dog was in the van for 1.5 hours so i took that time to treat all my fish after this winter and no heat has ate em up so i can bomb this aeromonas outfit up today with a stupifying dose of C/T
the dog came out of the van hour and half and 35 quid later lloking as pretty as a picture and promptly run over the front lawn and rolled in someones cat sh*te ! peachy hey?
