Yep the first vortex as Static then all the others as Bio.

If you are dumping them both each day then turn the first one into static and you wont have to dump them both just the first one.Bob has been doing some mods on his Vortex for his new system and may be able to give you some pointers or pictures to help.

I would recommend static k1. Ive got a temp pool in the back garden with some friends koi in-within days the water went pea soup colour as it was new water and you couldnt see any of the fish. After a week i converted the first bay of my cl3 to static k1, unfortunately it is pump fed with the pump mid water. Two days later the water is crystal clear-i flushed the static k1 twice a day for a few days-now it will go a week with no problems!

I would give the static k1 a while to kick in-as long as theres enough flow through the static it should sort things out. I was talking to Manky Sankey about sand filters-i think if you use a very thin layer of sand then there is no need for such a powerfull pump.

Perhaps make the second Vortex, the 24" one, the static K1 chamber. Ensure that the inlet and oulet have holed pipes in them and there is a grid to stop the K1 going down the bottom drain and fill with K1. Therefore the whole chamber is static, no need to put something inside it. Need to work out the outlet pipe level and the holes, but easily done really. The static K1 will also do some boilogical, just like a pod does.

If you are worried about the amount of water you would have to dump using your first vortex then there is alway's the option of putting in a wastw pipe in the easy, then the only water you would be loosing is what is in the easy. I did see a diagram of how to do this but for the life of me I can not remember what post it was in, but I do remember it did sound quite easy to do. Prehap's one of the other's might remember what post it was in.

IMHO If you have only been running for 3 weeks would suggest you let things settle down, monitor water parameters, make sure everything is stable before starting to tweak things.

Just out of interest...What is my Nexus Eazy Pod then; fluid or static?
It's static until you want to clean it, then you turn off the pump, fire up the 45 lpm air pump for a few minutes, shut the inlet, open the dump valve and dump the dirty water. (I do it twice) Then you turn on the pump, open up the inlet, shut the dump valve and it's static again.
Or have I missed the point completely?

Yours is static as when in normal operation the K1 does not have any air on where as in a Nexus Easy the air is on in the biological chamber so the K1 is bubbling away but not in the mechanical chamber (in the easy) until it needs cleaning.
