I would make it 3 feet above as this a nice size to sit on and also to keeps little people out of the pond. Also you don't have to dig too much out of the ground, however you still have to have more bricks if your going to face the pool with bricks.

I would go with Jules on that its always nice to sit on the side of a pond looking in and it saves bending over and doing your back in

is 2ft below ground enough or should i have the tank made 6ft deep ,i went for 5ft because the sheets come in 5ft width to save the join of an extra foot?

Set your skimmer over by your filter bay.
A. Easier to manage pipe work and add a pump, heater and UVC but keep it hidden.
B. Run the return pipes under the pool (or around the edge if you can use 2" mdpe(?) if you need any give me a shout.) and come up under the return inlet. This way you can still use normal 2" pressure pipe but reduce the bends. Do not scrimp on the glue and this will guarantee a leak free joint.
C. Put one return opposite the skimmer and the other one just infront or behind the skimmer.
D. If you have 4 returns you can use a ball valve on each one and swap the flow from clock wise to anti clockwise.

Good luck and I would if you can make it 6ft.

Opposite the skimmer great. by the skimmer you need to go either side of it so you don't push water past the skimmer mouth. does that make sense?
Skimmer position is spot on.

That's it. All you need to do now is cut back on the growth food and improve the circulation

Get every thing he said in writing, cover your backside. If he is confident that it will be to that specification he will do it no questions asked.

Looking forward to seeing the progress.
