Hi Gazza, Andy and Dave

I asked because a number of people I've spoken to have given the impression that it's almost essential to have a purge that bypasses the vortex. I think I'll stick with just using the vortext for purging.

Distance to the drain will be 30-40ft with the only fall being about 4-5 inches from the bottom drain to the concrete floor below. I guess I should be able to experiment with this before having to invest in a pump.

Cheers

Jon

Hi Jon,

Yes the vortex will be fine :D

My waste goes all round my garden to the drain and its all underground with a few bends and drops when it gets to the pump, one of the reasons i went for the pump is to make sure i always get rid of all the waste and i just thought with a pump on the end it should be fine and so far so good

Hi Jon

Totally agree with Gazza.

Have a spin with 2" pipe gravity, with the fall back of a pump. T the pond overflow into the pipe, no problem with this being gravity with the fall you have.

Regards

Dave

Hi Dave

I'm being a bit thick here; do you mean have a 2" waste pipe from the last chamber of the filter system and connect up the overflow pipe with a T pipe?

Cheers

Jon

Yes plumb in the overflow pipe from your pond into the waste pipe as if its above the level of the ground (above the waste level) it will always flow to waste.I have done the same but as i have both my QT & Pond waste and overflows on the same pump i have ball valves to keep everything shut off if necessary.

And before you ask YES  i have switched the pump on with the overflow valve open and its surprising how much come come out of a small pipe
