I'm now wondering whether these are actually any better than an Ecomax at a 1m head for comparable wattages. Does anyone know where I can find the performance of the Ecomax models at a 1m head or their performance curves? Can't find them by googling or on the Oase website.

I think its me Ed, i was thinking and looking for entirely the wrong thing, I took a left turn somewhere on this thread!! East Riding Koi have quite a comprehensive spec sheet on most pumps but no graph .

Right, I've found a series of [url=http://www.ponderosa-birds.com/oase_pumps.htm]outputs at various heads for Aquamax pumps[/url]. I'm having to assume that these are very similar to the Ecomax pumps and I've done some number crunching compared to the graph I was sent about the Pipe pumps.

Here is that data I've completed that makes me think that actually a Ecomax might be they way to go with a 1m head.

All this obviously depends on the initial data I've got being accurate and I have to say I'm a little sceptical on the pipe pump specs as they are a lot lower than their supposed flow rate at a 0 head. For instance the 12,000 pipe pump according to the graph has a flow rate of 9,000lph at 0m head. That's 'losing' 3,000lph with no head! Any ideas about that, it doesn't make sense to me!

i think the flow graph youve been sent by lifetech is and must be wrong as the starting point for each pump is well below its named flowrate

I agree. I've e-mailed them again to check the data.

Just got their response which is that they don't know whether the chart is correct or not and suggest you go by the lower figures! Looks like we've hit a wall here guys until Roger replies!

With a bit of luck I will be able to tell you how the 20,000 compares with an Aquaxmax 12,000 in real life application with it pumping water just over the wall via a 2 inch outlet with a venturi and 6 inches below water level. Not too sure how that compares with a 1m head though! If it doesn't do well I will put it straight over the wall to reduce any retrictions.

That is if they send me the pump. It went for not a lot of money on eBay!

Hopefully it arrives soon and I can't wait to hear about it. If I'd not got a 1m head then I would have ordered one too I think!

Good news for the rest of us David. Can you experiment and pump it to a 1-metre head through large bore pipe and 'catch and measure' the output??????? Come Dave, course you can

hers something that i find a little confusing (now no silly comments), if they tae the output at zero head why sell them with this bit of pipe on top and a 90 degree bend on top of that. your getting a pump thats already handicapped by "head".
oh and does anybody know the diameter of said pipe as i have foud two differing pictures..

and tis one even shows one pump for sale and then has a picture of the other type of pump in the description

The two pumps in the picture a two different sizes. The 90* bend on the top is optional. you can put it on of leave it off.

The pumps you have in the website link are the high power HP series (top)

and the low head eco series (mushroom pump) on the bottom (less head, less watts, more water)

I do like the look of these and was thinking of putting one on the QT and wondered if i could drop a bigger pipe with lots of slots in down first then slide it down the pipe so its away from the fish but totally submersed in the tank

Bottom line is that If they deliver something similar to the Eco Aqamxes then they don't involve the same initial outlay!! time will tell on reliabilty though.

Very tempted to have a play myself

That's the kind of idea I'm thinking of Gazza. Just not sure they're going to be worth it now with those flow rates at 1m head, if correct. Hopefully when dho gets his he'll do a couple of experiments and see what kind of flow rate there is?
