Post by Gazza »

Hi Guys,

Just want to kick this one of and see how it goes so come on lets have some thoughts and views please.

So what are your thoughts on some of the treatments we use and what they could/can do to our younger fish :?:

Hi Dunc,

I knew you would throw me a curve ball

i suppose i was thinking about Tosai to be honest and if it would have any impact on the growth or anything from treatments.

Hi gazza, well we bring in several thousand tosai a year and unfortunately they will pretty much all see some form of parasite treatment during quarantine!! Also I'm sure the breeders have had to treat regularly in Japan , more so with the lower grade consol fish. The higher the grade the more space they are given and in turn the less likely to pass parasites amongst each other.
I have seen no negative effects on growth using parasite treatments!

If your talking about bacterial treatments then yes tosai below 6 inches can be a nightmare to the point of impossible to fix!! And if they do come round then yes it will have an adverse effect for that season at least!

As a side question Duncan what's your thoughts on using ab's that are administered to the water?

if you want to breed antibiotic resistant bacteria i cant think of a better way to do it than this !!! unfortunetly the Japanese do just this

if you ahve a few thousand tossia and they are dealing with a bad bacterial infections its imposible to pull them all and inject so they pile the baytril into the water and treta them all in one hit

not a great way to proceed regardless
