Wanna make sure i'm not missing something

Post by greg »

Got a Sanke that has been sulking the last 24hrs or so.

Kinda listless on the bottom, sometimes clamped pec fins / other times not.
Swims around for a bit but appear to get tired and then go back to sulking.
Water all tested OK for the usual suspects (PH KH GH Amm NitrIte)

I had initially put it down to having to turn my trickle off due to a busted pre-filter on Friday but today i was convinced some thing else was up.

I pulled the koi and took three scrapes.

On slide 1 i found nothing

On slide 2 i found 4 flukes

Video - http://s162.photobucket.com/albums/t273 ... nt=002.mp4

On slide 3 i found LOTS of these - not much movement (if any) so no video but i was left wondering if they were immature WS??

I would want to treat for the WS first if it is??? as this offers the biggest threat - but i'm not sure if i'm right.

Hi Greg I would scrape three more koi to get a better idea of what is going on in the pond, also from the symptoms you describe it sounds like Costia.

Big blobs look like air bubbles. If costia I would expect the black dots to be zooming everywhere. Do more scrapes.
Flukes will give the symptoms you have described as I saw recently on Emmaandaj's koi

Thanks Guys,

I will re-scrape this morning to be sure. Then if nothing found, will hit the pond with Flubanol and Acetone for the flukes.

Just to follow this up i did some more scrapes and could only find flukes.

So last Tuesday i treated the pond with Flubanol (1gram per 89 gallons) and Acetone (10ml per 1000 gallons).

Koi improved within 24hrs and here we are Sunday afternoon and the koi are normal again and all is OK. I have not re-scraped as i felt no need to due to the improved behaviour and appetite etc.
