pump and boiler failure

hi
Ever wondered what would happen if you were away and your pump failed and the boiler kept on working?

well i have one of these up for grabs free gratis to the first past the pm post http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/ ... 4E4F4E4526

you "T" off the pump return with half inch pipe enter this T'ed water into this device than then keep the flow going either back into the main return or feed a small feature. you wire the device into the electric feed to the boiler

so now if the pump stops this thing breaks the mains feed to the boiler shutting the boiler down

let me know

i put the link up so that if your not the lucky one you at least know where to get em and what they look like
a simple but effective device if you heat and you dont have one you should

I don't have to wonder Duncan,

I've seen it lots of times on swimming pool heat exchangers. Without the cooling effect of the pool/pond water flowing through the heat exchanger, the primary feed (pipes to and from the boiler) heats up the heat exchanger to between 70C and 90C and the plastic pipes which are generally rated at 50C to 60C, start melting.

As you say, it's a good idea to install a flow switch like this one to switch off the boiler. Or if the heat exchanger is fed from the house boiler via a zone valve, just take the live feed that opens the zone valve and run it through one of these switches first.
