First Loss of the Year!

Hi All

This little Kohaku (8"-9") was showing signs of dropsy for about a week to 10 days, but was still swimming and feeding with the others. Fed on the Monday and it was swimming OK, went out Tuesday morning and it was laid alongside the BD dead.

Thought I'd try to see if I could identify anything other than the dropsy that may have caused te death but, as you can see, there are no other external signs.

Decided to take a look inside to see if I could see anything there and thought (with the aid of Dunc anotating the photos) I'd post on here to see if anyone can identify the COD. Duncan has told me what it was, but I'll give you a few days to think about it before I give you Duncan's answer.

Sorry Bob for your loss, as Gazza has said great photos.

Well without looking in Duncans book and with my limited experience I can only assume a bacterial infection. Hope I haven't made myself look a propper walley and look forward to knowing what the cause is, as I'm sure the organs must be pointing towards the cause.

If I'm wrong with my initial comment and the organs will show me the case can I be so kind and ask you point me in the right direction in Duncans book please? If you don't ask you don't get

Many thanks in advance

Matthew

I'll have a go.

The big pink mass looks to me like a tumour. I would like to take a closer look because I can't quite see whether it is growing on the spleen or the intestine but it seems to be growing on the intestine.

Hi Syd

Yes mate, that is a tumour - but neither on the spleen or the intestine!???

I'll post some more photos and Dunc's opinion on the COD in a couple of days, just in case anyone else wants to hazard a guess over the weekend.

Cheers

Bob
