Requirements for raising fry?

Post by Louie »

Hi,

I've seen a lot of koi fry for sale this summer and wouldn't mind having a go and bringing some on. Can anyone tell me what the minimum requirements would be for doing this, in terms of size and kind of "home" for them, temps and food? Also the kind of filtration they would need, aeration and where to get hold of the live food that they would need? When would they go onto solid food?
Any help greatly appreciated!

hi Louie

it depends what size fry you intend to purchase? small fry foul water up pretty quick as they waste more food than they eat and its pretty hard to gauge how much to give them, which is why in Japan they put them out on mud ponds so early so you would need ample size pond with massive filtration and food thats at least 60% protein

Thanks Duncan,

Not as simple as I had perhaps hoped for!
I think I'll leave it to the professionals then.
