Hi Chi,
The old probe always gave me reading around the 300 mark or just below, dependng on the time of the year. I then bought one of those monitors direct cheap monitors and a new pinpoint probe from monitors direct. Both read different but within 10% of each other.
summer and it's effects on readings

Chi,
Sorry if I confused you there, but I did buy the alternative, not the actual pinpoint version.
Pond is settling down again now after lasts weeks upheaval, Pinpoint unit reading 305 and monitor direct 316 this morning.
TDS of 110, pH of 7.29 both these being measured on monitors direct units. Have also ordered 2 new 'dip' meters as the ones I have now are a few years old and I want to treble check!

Thanks for that Bob, why did you replace the probe, a matter of maintenance or failure?
I'm about to replace my Pinpoint probe as a matter of course, which I do around every 18 months. I may yet decide to get both a Pinpoint and that alternative probe to test against each other. It would be interesting to determine if the budjet probe can compete with the Pinpoint device in accuracy and or longevity.
The readout difference between the budget monitor unit and the Pinpoint monitor is significant at the levels we are striving for, so I'd like to nail it to the wall so I understand which meters do what and how well, we can get better value from budget meters if we know their idiosyncrasies. Can the budget monitors be calibrated?, as my daughter requires one for her cychlid tank.
