New Shower

Hi Folks
Thought I would fit the shower I won at the national raffle.
So now the bottom tank, has a beadmaster and the shower.
Total flow within the 500 gall tank, works out about 4000 galls an hour and the fish seem to love it
I have positioned the return about a foot down, so the fish have a couple of feet of slower water below, so they can have somewhere to rest.
Will now try and get hold of some small babies ( non go-sanke for a change) to have a go, and see how they grow
Regards
Andy

Hi Gaz
I am thinking of Ogons, as I have learnt from the one I have that you really need to get length before body.
So I will pobably pick up 1/2 a dozen over the weekend see how we go with them, then maybe some small stuff when I am in Japan
Be a bit of fun anyway
Kind regards
Andy

Don't worry about the size of um Gaz, 96,000 galls a day of filtered water should keep um OK
We will have to arrange a bit of a KQ day, I dunow, pop over to yours, mine bob's dez's etc so we can compare QT setups, performaces etc
I know nerdy

Trickle Tower

Andy,
I had a look at what you won while at the show, which was advertised as a 'trickle tower'. As for media it contains something which I think is called bio maze, but is basically similar to flocor but made into cubes/rectangles. It can then be cut to fit and size of structure. This stuff is used in the Wastewater industry which I work in and is a very good media. It has to be kept wet or the bio film will dry out, a problem in my industry due to varying flowrates, Sun and Wind, which will dry it out.
It is used as a 'trickle' though, so when I saw your prize I thought it ideal as a trickle. I'm guessing though that you are blasting the flow through it in 'shower' fashion, so I dont know how it will react as a bio filter with this media in it. Great for aeration anyway and I'm sure you have plently of other bio filtration anyway.
Just a thought Andy, as 'trickle' filters and 'showers' are generally designed differently.

Bob, I've seen this setup with 3K-gph going over it working very, very well (really, really impressed me) ... only draw back is that it has to be clean water (no bits in it

) unlike a shower.

Hi Bob
Yeah I agree that trickle and shower are two different issues. I went on to Cold Water Collection web site and they claim you can chuck 4000 galls over the shower, so one would assume that the media is suitable.
I have also had the pleasure of going over the filtration down at the Barn, where they are growing on the fry etc and they use the same media will high flow rates so hopefully it will give some benefit.
And like you say, the tanks main filtration is a 2200 gall rated bead filter anyway, so if it only provides flow and oxygen, can't be a bad thing
Thanks for the input though, as this is what KQ is all about.

So why do they call it a 'trickle tower'???????
They should be marketing it as a shower surely!

You tell um Bob
It will be intersting to compare though, as I have one shower with BHM on the QT, so at least I will be able to make a comparison over time.
Hopefully

I am popping in today so will have a word about the 'trickle' or 'shower' , I suggest Ken has meant to sell as shower but has put 'trickle'. I would quite like them to use their name in the title and to call it the "Cold shower". Then they could advetise as "Do you need a cold shower?"
