Hi all
Would a nexus 200 with 25ltres of biochips off one drain and a vortex with static k1 and 180 ltres of k1 and 25 ltres of biochips in 6 foot ex multibay off other BD be enough filtration for a 6000 gallon pond?
Was then thinking of running a small k1 type filter off skimmer line as well.
So what do you think?

having just red Manky Sankeys comments ons and filters i am considering a sand filter off the skimmer to help polish the water.
So what do you think?

Hi Matty,
The Nexus 200 Eazy is good for around 4000gls i think so i would of thought if the mutlibay is working OK then you should be OK but remember it all depends on how many fish what size, how much food etc etc.
My pond is a tad under 4500gls and i run four vortex units all coupled together and in total i have around 300lts of K1 in the system.
Always try to go over the top its much better in the long run.

My experience of bio chips in my Nexus's was not a good one. They seemed to clump together below the bottom air ring and clog evrything up and if they escape they are a pain to clear from your pipes.
I chucked them and reverted back to straight K1.
Maybe others have had better experiences with Biochips?
IMHO - If you in a new pond situation start off with no more than 50L of K1 in the bio chamber to get it working with not too much air then gradually increase the air and add more K1 when you need it.

Dave

I almost forgot i also have 25lts of bio chips and i have to be honest i think they are great and was surprised when i removed one after only a short time and stuck it under the scope
Dave i think the problems they have had is due to the air ring in the Nexus as mine have been no trouble at all but my air ring is flat on the bottom of the filter grid.

Hi,
Matt have a look at the posts of Gazzas filters, they will handle massive amounts of food

Definately the best water i have ever seen!
Im sure i saw someone cut the bio chips into quarters so they moved around more and didnt get caught on the air ring in a nexus???
Cheers Andy

Ta Gary
Think you are spot on in an aerated situation but sitting in the bottom of the Nexus they were a potentially serious problem!

Hi Dave,
Yes i have seen a few people who wasn't very satisfied with the Bio Chips in the nexus and removed them what did you do with yours out of interest
Andy next time you come round perhaps Matt would like to tag along and have a look

Gary,
Think the chips are tucked away in the shed, or the garage or somewhere.
Is this an open ipond visit invitation, subject to a few chips entrance fee? provided you have some beer - it sounds like a good deal!
May see you Sunday

Dave

Found the chips, sitting in a bag on the shelf in the pond shed, best place for them - far safer than in the Nexus!

Cheers for the invite definately keen to see the pond if thats ok. Im shocked how many local members are on here. At least that means i will hopefully get to meet other obsessed koi keepers easily enough.
What if i just put the cips in the converted multi bay? I think i could get at least 200 fluid in that plus the 30 static + what ever is in the nexus.
Im not 100% sure ill be able to wait till next year at present the excitement is building lol. Probably get worse when i pick the nexus up : )
Am trying to get to the show this weekend but its working out very difficult to persuade the wife due to her being two days over due on our baby.
