Simply Koi and More Koi

Hello All....

Recently i have been giving the pond position a bit of a rethink. Originally it was going to be placed next to the conservatory and the hole was dug out, but after a bit of deliberation there were a few things that were not right, it was as though i was just trying to slot it in anywhere i could, my concerns were that i would lose a footpath alongside the side of the garden and also the soil pipe which would of been 50-70mm below the pond was also a concern of mine..
So today i decided on a new spot for the pond..

Firstly i had to throw back some of the soil i had retained into the existing hole..It will be topped up with soil from the other dig....

Next it was over to the new site for the pond, believe it or not this is the spot i had for my very first pond which can be seen on my website ( why didn't i just upgrade my original instead of building a 4000 gallon and knocking it down + a 450 gallon indoor pond, also knocked down.. )
After a measure it was a perfect for the pond and a filter house on the side as well...

I had to empty the shed to move it over and couldn't believe how much junk you can fit into such a small place....

Next job was to lift the decking, the little one decided to give me hand as he wanted to press the drill while i was taking the screws out...as you can imagine it took a lot longer with his help, but the sun was shining and it was nice to be spending some time in the garden. This is the site ready for ( another ) dig.... I must be mad.....

Do you ever just wish you had kept the first pond don't worry mate we've all been there

I was going to ask you if it was all finished yet but it looks like your on revision 2 so Ill keep my eyes out for an update soon

Not sure which of us does the most alteration Jason, at least I've still got the same pond - just different filters.

So will you just be re-siting the fibreglass pond? I'm sure you could fit a bigger pond in there

with the benefit of hindsight i wish i had just upgraded the first pond i had, but then again what other projects would i have had for the last two summers....

The preformed is actually perfect size + a filter room for the space that is there, so i will stick with the preformed i think, plus i get to cover the ugly back wall with some nice black and white Japanese features, i am going to be putting a roof over the pond as well which will give me the opportunity to enclose the whole pond for the winter...

Made a start today and came across something i had forgot....
When i built my old first pond i layed some slabs down, then layed some blocks flat and mortared them onto the slabs followed by a 50mm layer of concrete on top...All this and i had a liner in this pond....
Well i got the pick underneath and it wouldn't budge so i have spent all day smashing away at it with the sledge hammer...

I suppose the only bonus is that it saves a lot of digging as overall the slabs, blocks and concrete means less soil to remove... Plus its lovely soft soil underneath..

The dig continues.....

Are yo sure your not both related? At least with both of you doing so many upgrades all the newbies on here can benefit from all the on going experiance. Keep it up Weasel and don't forget regular pictures.

Stoaty, i hope the newbies don't follow mine and Bob's path as they will never have time to rest by the pond and enjoy it....

Had another little go today, managed to get all the soil out.

I also started a bit of the pipework for the bottom drain and air feed.

When i asked him to build it for me i told him i wanted the two 2" returns flush with the side walls, when he delivered it they were sticking out about 4" so i have cut them back and used the top of two 2" tank connectors and sealed with gold label, it looks a better finish now.

We'll See Bob..tomorrows plan is a bit more pipework and i want to run a water feed up to the pond and a waste feed down to the drain.
