What pipework?

Hi all,

I was just wondering whether there is any particular type of pipework you use when making a Q/T.

I'm looking at 2" plastic but is it just standard waste pipe from a plumbing merchant or a special kind?

Also, where do you get the shut off valves and things for the particular pipe.

Cheers in advance.

Dave

You can use 2 inch waste solvent weld pipe or 2 inch grey pressure pipe. Depends on what you want to throw at it? To be honest there isn't much difference on price. The Ball valves are ok for either style of pipe but the waste style will require a reducing sleeve for either side of the valves to allow the correct fit of the pipe. The pressure pipe will fit directly in without the need for these. Hope this helps?

If it were me I would bite the bullet and use the pressure pipe as it is bullet proof but then I prefer to be over cautious when doing pipe work.

Cheers Jules.

Also, how would you connect a grundfos 15-50 heating pump to the pressure pipe?

Is there certain connectors needed and is it easy enough?

Thanks
Dave

There is a kit you ca buy from out of the back of the koi magazines that are specific to these pumps. I know another way of doing it can be with female threaded unions. Similar to these http://www.jewelspondsandgardens.co.uk/onli ... .asp?ID=74

I use normal pipe and VDL gate valves as they are easy to repair and robust (unlike the cheap valterra gate valves which are crap). For 400-500 gallon QT I use 50mm pipe for the pumped section and 75mm for the gravity flow returns.
