Simply Koi and More Koi

Hi guys,
I'm busy getting the stuff to convert my filter to K1 but am a little unsure about the use of speedfit piping.

Firstly I was thinking of using 15mm; is this the best size to use?

I'm planning to have a straight run along the centre of the Fluidised chamber with a T in the centre and stop ends at each end (as it's a long, thin chamber) and a ring set up in the static section. Does anyone foresee any problems with this?

I was hoping to run both the fluidised bit and the static part for cleaning off one Hi-blow 60l pump and am a little unsure what valves to use or how to connect the pump to the speedfit pipe so I don't get leaks.

Any help you guys can give to make this nice and easy will be most appreciated.

Yes the 15mm speed fit pipe is the stuff and easy to use.

have you thought about making the one in the thin section in a rectangle or square all you need is four bends and a tee and its done but start off with small holes and not to many of them.I drill my holes about 25mm apart and i think they are 1.2-2mm holes and i use a 40lt air pump so you should be OK with a 60.

I did think of a rectangle but it's a weird shaped chamber. It's about 200l chamber; 1.8m long, 0.33m wide and 0.3m deep to the benching in the bottom. I was thinking that if I had two stream of air coming up it woudln't leave much room for the K1 to tumble down as well! I was even considering having the air bar at one edge, 1,8m long, so the K1 rises at one side and then goes across the width of the chamber and drop at the other side. It should tumble nicely then I would have thought? Or maybe it'll be better to have a rectangle, like you suggest, with air coming up at both edges of the long sides of the chamber?

What about connecting the speedfit to the air pump? How do you do that?

You can connect the sppedfit to the airpump by using rubber hose and jubilee clips.

Fantastic, cheers Bob, just the info I needed on taps and connecting. I was looking at those taps and wondering if they'd do! I think I'll get enough bits to do either a rectangle or a single run and see which works best. I'm thinking a rectangle around the edge with air along both 1.8m walls would then send the K1 tumbling down in the centre where the two drains are, but I think it might just be one of those things where I have to have a play!

I use the plastic pipe which is like petrol pipe which fits straight onto a large manifold and then fits into one of the speed-fit straight connections spot on.You can run it out and put some little valves its so easy to do its great

Can you explain how the 3rd picture works please? inlet outlet where it flows fluidised static etc???

Sorry for the late replay as i have been a bit busy lately

Thee speed-fit pipe is installed on the first and last vortex the reason for this is the first vortex is static K1 so in normal use it has no air and the last vortex is fluidized so in normally conditions has air.When i clean the filters i can just turn on the valve on the first vortex and this then aerates the static K1 to clean it all nice and easy to hand
