Protein Skimmer and How

Hi
I think it's time i added a protien skimmer to my pond. But i'm not sure how i'd fit one into my setup and there are plenty of DIY versions but can anyone point me in direction to one that work, commercials ones too expensive.
I have a pump which just basically connects to a pressurised fishmate bio filter that just goes back direct into the pond. Where would the protien filter fit or should i have as a separate device like you do in aquariums??
I have air pump, so just need to understand where i fit the protien filter for best results and which one i should buy or DIY
It's a small pond so don't need industrial version
PS: sorry if wrong section please move to right section
