There is another potential issue hear, following Duncan's logica.

Can you over clean filter systems that use aeration, nexus, bead etc and in this way disrupt the bio film ? A bit like a physical punch up with the outer layers taking all the hits !

Come on somebody;

1) Can you over boil your K1 in your Eazy and demolish the biofilm.? :?:
2) Can you polish your balls (sorry) beads to much and strip them of their biofilm? :oops:

Not a problem in a jap mat based system........... I saw a quote once in a book that said "drain the sediment from your filter often but don't over clean it" were they right?

Hi Peter,

No i believe you cannot boil the bacteria off the K1 you would really have to got at them to do that with something like a jet wash and even then i am sure the bacteria will soon kick back in once its back in the system.

My K1 in my vortex units each have a 40ltr pump on 24/7 all year round and seems to work :D :wink:

hi

daft as it sounds i dont think you can boil K1 till the outter surface starts shedding or abrading the bacteria off if you lookat K1 its has pretty indentations on the inside and outside this would protect bacteria but even if it did not how would this figure with a true fluidised filter that has very fine sand in it ?

these things clash to such and extent the eventually the sand wears away as this take splace they are still the most efficient kind of filters there are
