Hi All....

Long time no see! Glad to see lots of familiar faces still around. Everything seems to have been going along very well recently, but I have an ID query along with a health question that I just know you're going to be able to help with. :) I shall post them seperately.
First of all the ID problem. This is a koi that I picked up this weekend. I really like this and don't recall having seen anything like it before. Looks to me like a shiro with the back of an asagi.... Would be grateful for your opinions please.
Many Thanks,
Louie

I couldn't say Louie. To be truthful, koi don't automaticaly fit in a catagory unless they are culled for it. I would hazard to guess that your fish is something that is outside the bounds of breeder culling or perhaps someone was just interested is how it would turn out. In any case the main thing is you like it. Seeing as you felt it worth putting out the dosh for, then I guess you do. I wouldn't worry about trying to pin a lable to it and just enjoy what you have.

Good to see you again Scotty! How's Holland treating you?
I don't really worry too much about categorization so long as the fish "does it for me," but curiosity got the better of me this time. I really do like the mix with this one and will take your advice and just enjoy it. It's gonna bug me though......... :D

Louie,

Yep "final answer" - Kage Shiro Utsuri - at least IMO.

Agree with that too. Seen some nice pics of some Kage Hi Utsuri at one Japanese farm too.

Sorry to disagree Duncan but the Sumi's wrong for a matsukawabake in my opinion. Maurice has bred a fair few nice matsus and they have a look more like shiros with submerged or emerging Sumi than this fish which has a pretty even robing type of Sumi with a black pattern over the top. When i get back onto my laptop I'll try and find some pictures to illustrate what I'm on about.

It's somewhere between the two in my opinion!

Looks most like an utsuri with kage, but then look at its fins - it has mostly tejima fins.

If I had to force myself then I'd go with an utsuri.
