Thats why this closed forum gives us a chance on some stuff as those vets who have been looking in cant see bugger all now

Remember guys what goes on in the zone stays in the zone :D

Bit like what my brother in laws used to say when we was on holiday with 18 - 30's lol that was some time ago
100% agreed :)

Hi guys

This post is Baytril* related but is primarily to make me feel better and to avoid my blood pressure going through the roof.

I just received my latest copy of a well known koi magazine this morning. I was having a quiet read when I came across a question from allegedly an unnamed “vet” who was treating a client’s koi who have got ulcer disease and the fish have GBR (general body rot – my phrase).

Five out of twenty fish have need treatment and the “vet” asks for “professional advice on treatment”. The “vet” asks, as their local treatments plus amikacin are not working, should Baytril be added to the regimen and “would it best be given orally or injected?”

In the same article just for fun I assume, there is also a question as to wither the amikacin used could have “caused bacterial death” of the biofilter !

The response from the magazine was very measured and rightly pointed out that they could not advise on antibiotic use and the “vet” should look at the professional web site for guidance.

When a “qualified”? “vet” shows such basic ignorance of the fundamentals of the management of bacterial infections in koi, is it any wonder we have the problems of bugs that don’t respond to routine antibiotics anymore and koi keepers are generally confused about how to manage these issues.

Duncan this ignorance underlines the enormous value of this site……compare the above with the rational considered dialogue that is going on here about Baytril…..it must make you really proud and, in my opinion, underlines the true value of this unique site and all the people who contribute to it.
I feel better now.

hi peter

regards your drug being seized by customs this must be sods law as mine had nothing on the pack to indicate what was in it

second this guy dont seem to mind and knows how to ship and not draw attention to the package, again it must have been pure chance

next the fish are doing nicely so no reaction to the injection one ip and one IM

last as i mentioned i got a 100 ml bottle of 10% it cost me as near as damn it £100 but i dont need 100 ml i only want 50 ml that will last me years , 100ml is like owning 400ml of 2.5% the more normal stuff available

so i would like to share some of it with as many as possible it brand new with max use by date

so if anyone has a 5 or 10ml injectable bottle empty of course and wants to send it to me and pay £1 per ml plus some postage i will share with you try stick to 5ml

remember 5 ml of this stuff is like having 20ml of the more usual 2.5% you only need 25% of the normal dose given in my book

try and get away with as little as you can so everyone gets a chance at some. i have a few 2ml emtpy bottles that i could squeeze maybe 2-3 ml in and that would give you the equivelent of 12 ml of 2.5%

i would like to give every one within reason a shot at getting some for their fridge

pm me as always first come first served but if you can get it please try and let some oters who cant have a shot

Got mine too. From your comments Duncan I presume you cant just draw it direct from the bottle it is supplied in. If this is the case, 2 questions
1 why
2 where can I get injectable bottles or is this just one of these things if you are lucky enough to get hold of.
if people want some let me know, just pm me

well i drew it off the bottle as you say but i would not leave the lid off to long and place it back in the fridge thats why injectable bottles are they way they are, to stop contamination you dont have this option with this bottle but themn again your not paying £100 for it either

i dont really understand your questions mate

certainly you cant as far as i know get empty injectable bottles new but some folks mayhave old ones around that they have emptied if they send these i can clean them out no problem
