volume of a D
hi all
my head hurts with calculations so time to hand over the last piece
what is the volume in UK gallons of an elongated D shape
20 foot long and 5 foot at its widest point and 6 foot deep

Hi Lee,
Assuming that the width is constant at 5 ft (not very wide by the way) and that the whole length is 20 ft and a constant depth of 6ft, that should give you a box shape of 17.5 (length)x 5 (width) x 6 (depth) cubic foot. Plus you need to add in the D which is 3.14 (pi) x 2.5 x2.5 (square of the radius) x 6 (depth) / 2 (divide by 2 as you have a semi circle and not a circle).
All that gives you 584 cubic ft *6.23 = 3637 uk gallons maximum.
David.

hi
let me clarify
the D is the last part ie the pond will be 20 foot long by 10 foot at its widest
the bow frount will start at 5 foot so i have a retangle of 20 foot by 5 foot the whole lot is 6 foot deep
so
20x5x6x6.25= 3750 UK gallons
i just need the volume of the bow frount to give me total gallonage excluding the filters
regards

hi chrisboogatee wrote:3750 + [3.14 (pi) x 10 x10 (r squared) x 6 (depth) / 2]
3750 + (942 X 6.23)
3750 + 5868.66 = circa 9619 UK gallons
ummm it cant be 5868 in the D as it cant be a bigger volume than the rectangle
the 10 foot is the total width so the d starts from half so the width of the retangle part is 5 foot and the width of the widdest part of the D is 5 foot
if you can imagine a total area of 20 foot by 10 foot less the curve on the frount
i suppose another way is whats the formula for ovals then i can half it
