Flap weirs or collar weirs

Post by netsukekoi »

I have the standard swimming pool collar weir in my Certiken skimmer and find I have to clean the collar every couple of weeks to stop the algae stopping it from floating up and down.

Would a flap weir be maintenance free compared to a collar?

Thanks, Martin :)

I have a Certiken skimmer on my pond I have never had to clean the collar (Not even
when I had a blanket weed problem) I,ve just had to replace the pump as the old one
wasn't powerful enough so when I get the filters back online & the pond restocked
I'm back in business

Martin I only ever fit flap weir as they are more efficent than the collar weir as the point of "suction" is on the face of the pool so all the dust/leaves and other debris has a stronger pull to get them into the basket. They are a zero maintainence system but like all skimmers you have to keep an eye on the debris in the basket.

If you want a flap to put in the front firstly check the 2 locating holes at the front of the skimmer have not been glassed over. If not then things are good to go and I can sort one for you when I return from Oz.
