Ultra sieve 111

Hi,

Can you feed a ultra sieve 111 by both a bottom drain & a skimmer?

This would then be pumped through a bead. I know the ultra sieve has two 110mm inlets, but will you get a good flow through both.

If you can bring the skimmer pipe to the other end of the sieve, drill a hole to take the pipe via a tank connector directly into the screen side of the seive. Then just adjust the flow of water from the skimmer with a ball valve. In this manner the skimmer water is going directly through the seive's screen and you can regulate how much you want to pass through the screen to the pump.

The big disadvantage of doing this will be less water being pulled through your bottom drain and more waste settling in your drain through lack of pull from the sieve.

Can the skimmer use the same sieve as the bottom drain in any situation. What if i used the maximum pump the sieve can cope with.

Does a skimmer always need a separate line?

To be honest you could put a larger pump on the Sieve and feed it as Bob described which is a new method to me and one I like, however I like to put the skimmer circuit on its on pump with either a UV and/or heater on there before returning back to the pond. I don't see where a larger pump will beifit you unless you have the returs to get the water "away" and back to the pond.

Maybe give us some more information about your returns and the placement of the returns and the size of pipework.

It works well Jules, have used it on a couple of ponds. A good sized pump as you say is required, but adjusting the skimmer valve back to only have the skimmer 'skimming' means the pump required isnt so large.

Do you advise 2" pipe from the skimmer Bob?

Have used 1.5" before, the ball valve regulates the flow. As long as the inlet to the seive is lower than the skimmer, water just flows nicely. If the flow is low through regulating the valve, then an extension piece on the inside of the seive is useful to direct the flow onto the screen.
