Hi Steve
Here are some photos of my conversion that may help.
Standard vortex with outlet close to top

Plastic dustbin with holes for 4" pipe and slots to allow water to flow in from vortex.

Section of slotted 4" pipe (sealed at one end) and airline fitted to dustbin and whole assembly fitted in vortex, The free end of the 4" pipe is simply supported by cable ties.

K1 in place and filled with water.

Works a treat!

Re: vortex modification to k1
Yes i would go along with Bob they work a treat
You can convert the first one to take static K1 and this will replace your brushes as the mechanical section and then if you wish fluidised K1 in the other units.
You have to make sure you make them K1 proof what i mean by this is that the K1 like escaping so you need to make sure I does all end up in the last chamber or be able to get flushed to waste. You can get perforated filter grid which you can use for stopping the K1 moving into another chamber. You could also have one of the other units with K3 which is much bigger and easier to keep control of.

Re: vortex modification to k1
Hi Steve
Sorry, I missed the whole bit about the multi-bay - just read the title of the thread
I've converted my multi-bay to all fluidised K1 - can now clean all my filters without getting my hands wet!!
I started with some perforated sheet to contain the K1 but found it collected too much crud underneath (flushing the drains was very ineffective). I did a further modification, solved the problem and wrote an article for the BKKS about it http://www.bkks.co.uk/a-detritus-problem-solved.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I have a few more photos somewhere, so if you PM me an email address, I'll try to find them and send them to you.
Cheers
